Question Will this PSU work with my new GPU?

My system
Ryzen 7 7700X
Asus ROG Strix B60E-F Gaming WIFI
Seasonic Focus GX 750W 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular PSU

I have recently acquired an msi Geforce RTX 4080 super 16g Ventus 3x OC. Will my PSU be able to power the graphics card if I get a seasonic PCLe 12VHPWR PSU power cable? This should work, right?

It MIGHT, but honestly, a 750w PSU is a bit less than what is recommended for the whole system with an RTX 4080. You really want at least a good 850w unit. But you can certainly TRY it with that Seasonic if you get an adapter. Just be aware, practically all of those adapters have been recently recalled so make sure if you buy one you get one that has not been recalled like the ones from Cable Mod. Your best bet is probably to get one directly from Seasonic if possible. Then, if you have shut down or restart issues, you can pretty well bet that it's because that 750w unit is not handling the transient spikes which is primarily the reason a higher powered model is recommended.

This is the one I was looking at https://seasonic.com/12vhpwr-cable# . Yeah, I'll give it a go and if it doesnt work, I'll look into getting a new PSU.

Yes, it should work. It would untill you put it under heavy load like a demanding game.

Maybe I'm too cautious when it comes to using or rather not using isufficient PSUs but I wouldn't even try. I'd get a higher capacity PSU with some headroom. Specially if the current uint is a few years old already?

That's probably not the worst idea. Might not be a bad idea to come back here and ask before purchasing it though so we can make sure you don't go with a model that isn't necessarily great. There aren't too many ATX 3.0 compliant models yet that are not all that good, but there are probably a couple of them.

Seasonic Focus GX 850W Fully Modular 80+ Gold PCIE 5.0 Power Supply/PSU ATX3.0 This one any good?

It's not a bad unit but probably there are a lot of better units available.

Edit: my former link does not work. Here's another, same list https://hwbusters.com/psus/cooler-master-gx-iii-850w-atx-v3-0-psu-review/10/
There are many better models, but they are also significantly more expensive and a very thorough review of this unit was done at Anandtech which indicated it was very good. Granted, I'd prefer to see a review from Aris, but obviously there are other reviewers in the world and many of them are quite competent even if they aren't on the same level as Aris or able to do the same extensive level of testing. The testing that was done, was at least as extensive as what OW used to do over at JonnyGuru, so it's fine.

You'll still have a better PSU than about at least 50% of the aftermarket desktops out there worldwide. No doubt about that. And if you're in doubt of capacity on something, for now at least, my chart is a decent reference for PSU requirements. I may have to already do an update here soon since there have been a few models released since I posted that.
