Yes. In the manual, it clearly states the memory model to be compatible with the motherboard.

It says 4x2gb, these are 2x 8gb - does that matter? (New to this, sorry)

No need to be sorry. I don't think that it should be an issue, since your motherboard does support 16 GB memory. If you are really uncertain, giving asus a call would not hurt.

Hi Callum, yes it does support up to 16GB. It has 2xDIMM which means you can pair two 2gb's, two 4gb's or for the maximum two 8gb's. AND 4x2gb wouldn't work because the motherboard only has 2 slots. I think that is a list they just copy and paste.
Look at 1.7.2 it says any of those, so I think you are okay buddy.
