Hi Everyone,

I have just purchased an Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 Motherboard and I need some new DDR4 ram to go with it. I have found some Corsair DDR4 3000mhz ram. However on the Asus website it says that the mobo can only support 2133/2400Mhz.

I checked on PCPartpicker and there were no incompatibilities, however I would appreciate a second opinion!

Thanks.

The ram will likely work.
Go to the corsair ram selection app and enter your motherboard.
You will get a list of compatible kits.
The specs likely mean that the motherboard will not overclock ram past the stock 1.2v. 1.35v is generally needed for faster ram.
But, all ram will run at default 2133 speed so, yes, it will be compatible.

Moreover, faster ram does not increase real app performance more than a couple of %.

You might save a bit and buy 2400 speed.

There is the XMP feature to consider. Yes, those are the speeds tested with that board. THe CPU is very important where memory is concerned. Go check the supported speeds for your particular CPU at Intel. You will most likely not even see 2133 or 2400MHz mentioned. It's my firm belief that that RAM will work just fine with the XMP feature taken into consideration. Intel says what is natively supported. Asus suggests what is in their opinion optimal RAM and you have chosen a RAM speed that like 2133 and 2400MHz will only work correctly with the RAM needs to be overclocked. It is the memory controller in the CPU that can have issues with the wrong speed RAM. That is what Intel Extreme Memory Profile helps out with. But of course it only helps out to a point.

Go with the Corsair RAM. Make sure it will fit under your cooler. Don't want to come a day when you want to populate all slots and the heatsink is blocking one of them. Usual fix is sliding up the fan a bit.
