[SOLVED] Will this Ram run on a Asus A320M-k Motherboard

Hi All,

Im looking to upgrade my ram from:

HyperX HX426C16FB2K2/16 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2666 MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM Memory Kit

to:

Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit, Black

on to This motherboard( i know its naff but thats what i have):

ASUS PRIME A320M-K Motherboard, Socket AM4, AMD A320, DDR4, S-ATA 600, Micro ATX

with this CPU:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Processor (6C/12T, 35 MB Cache, 4.2 GHz Max Boost)

Graphics card too: gtx 1070 ti

I've seen that going from 2666mhz to 3200mhz will get me about 10ish frame extra in games.

This is the last upgrade im going to do on this system before waiting a year or so for a totally new system

im trying to squeeze the last bit of of juice out of my system before i cant upgrade anything more.

On the Asus site it says that 3200mhz is supported but it does look like i need to overclock it.

im not sure what that means. what am i overclocking. the ram has the right speed. Is it the voltage that im going to have to mess around with?

I dont like the sound of messing around with voltage unless theres a easy. "put these numbers in the place" type of deal

p.s. i found this old article that seem to have worked with a bios update. I updated mine a couple days ago because of the new CPU. does this look right to you?

Yes, your motherboard will support these new RAM sticks.

You can usually easily check by going to your motherboard's product page, on Asus' website.

If you look under the "Memory" tab, you should see it supports up to 3200MHz.

You also need to make sure to enable XMP (D.O.C.P. on Asus AMD boards) with this new set, since, by default, it will not be supported and defaulted back to base DDR4 speeds (It would still work). That is because it is technically overclocked RAM. Anything over 2666MHz is.

If there are any issues with this step, updating your BIOS might solve it and unlock the option.
That said, I would recommend avoiding to update your BIOS unless you actually need to, since manufacturers recommend to leave it alone if it works, to avoid bad flashes and bricked boards. You shouldn't be scared of updating it, but don't fix what's not broken!
