Hello
I have acquired a Dell Optiplex 3010 With an i5 3470 and 8GB DDR3 Ram.
Now I want to get into 1080p Gaming but graphics cards are the issue. I've been researching and found the 1050ti to be a good pick. But then doing my normal searches on ebay to see what i could dream on having i came across the GTX 970 Which here in the UK Priced at a reasonable £150 - £185 If you look good enough. Now i thought well this has been done before with Optiplex 3010 systems so why not do it? Well the issue of course is the power supply! 275 Watts isn't gonna cut a 1050ti or a 970 lol so i don't even know where to start on that as 970's require 2x 6 Pin connectors or a 6 and 8 pin connector apparently.
Would anyone be able to help me find a PSU For it? These 3010's do have the 24 Pin connector and not Dell's silly 8 Pin one found on the 3020 and newer. The 970 performs at best 63% Faster than the 1050ti according to GPU Userbenchmark. Also would a bottleneck be present? I've seen on youtube most people haven't bottlenecked the 970 due to the i5.
So can someone help me out with the PSU Side of things? I'm in the UK And have a budget of £50 for a PSU.

Thank you

As long as your Optiplex 3010 is a mini tower and not the desktop or SFF, any ATX PSU should fit. Of course, you'll have a lot of long cables to deal with in the small confines of the Dell case, but it's doable if appearance isn't a big thing. Just keep them tied back out of the way of airflow.

A good quality 500W PSU is all you need for the GTX 970. The one above is fine. This Evga is an old standby that has sold well for years. I still have two of them in daily use and never had an issue.

Btw, the i5-3470 and GTX 970 make a great 1080p/60Hz combo for near max settings at 60 fps gaming. I still have a Dell Optiplex 9010 MT with a i5-3470.

Great! I'll definitely get the 970 now. Why not when it's the same price as a 1050ti secondhand! Should be a good build under £350 for 1080p gaming! I'm not worried about appearance I've owned many Dells none have let me down.
