Will this work? (PCI lanes)

I have an ASUS Z87 Pro motherboard.

I have an i7-4770k in it, which has 16 PCIe lanes.

My intention was to have SLI with dual 970s, but I already have a sound card. I am willing to remove the sound card, but I would rather not.

My understanding of SLI is that it requires at least 8 lanes per card. That takes all 16 of the lanes in the CPU specifications, and it would appear the board itself will only support up to 16. I am wondering if this is correct or if I am mistaken about how this all works.

Have the sound card in the very top X1 slot or have it in the very bottom Long black slot.

Have GPU #1 in the top long yellow X8 slot

Have GPU #2 in the second long black X8 slot.

Shouldn't be a problem. I have listed X8 twice as the SLI configuration is X8/X8.
