I just had my mainboard go out. As this is the first time ever this has happened im not too mad, just kind of resigned as it is a 4 year old board. I already have a new CPU and mainboard on order, my only problem is that I do not know if my old memory will work in the new slot. They are physically the same size and pin number. However the speed is different. I was not sure if the RAM would lower itself in speed or if it would be incompatible. My question then is will the memory I have Corsair XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 work in this new board until a few weeks when I can get faster dual channel RAM for this new motherboard= GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard Any other thoughts or comments will be appreciated. I have no desire to fry and component of my computer, and I usually buy the RAM bundled with the motherboard, so I don't have much experience with memory itself.
