I am upgrading my PC with a new graphics card and cpu but I was wondering if my motherboard would support them.

I'm getting a Gigabyte GTX 970 Superclocked edition and i7 4790K CPU

My current motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-HD3

Solution
No. The 4790K is an LGA 1150 socket CPU and you have a socket 1155 board. You would need a Z87 or Z97 motherboard to use that CPU AND be able to overclock it. If you went with a non-K CPU, you could use a cheaper H97 board, but I'd recommend the K chip since the price difference between it and the non-K is very small for the overclocking ability plus the extra 400mhz base clock.

Do you know any good motherboards I could get for cheap that would get the job done because if I also have to get an expensive motherboard it goes over my budget :/
