Will this work?

I would like to connect (hard wire) my router (2nd floor) to my Roku (1st floor) to get a better signal transfer versus wireless, but there is no way to work the RJ45 cable through the walls. I do have a standard phone jack (RJ12) on each floor. Is there any type adapter (RJ45 to RJ12) that would allow me to use the RJ12 phone jack setup to carry a signal from floor to floor? Not even sure this would work due to fewer electrical connections in the RJ12 than the RJ45.

Thanks

As far as I know that would not work. As you suspected, the phone line just wouldn't be able to handle the signal. your best bet is to get a a pair of wireless Access points and equip them with directional antenna, make sure the APs are lined up on either floor and make sure the Antenna are pointing at each other. This is the setup I have in my house because my router is downstairs and I cannot run any CAT5 to the upstairs floor where all the computers are. It works fine for me.

Great answer. That's exactly what I was going to say.

Thanks. Had never heard of the D-Link Ethernet Over Powerline adapter. Just read a quick summary and this seems that it will do what I was asking. Now to find a good price!
