I'll have to have a look for the next best $70 processor for that board, any recommendations?

It's really tough to justify spending that kind of money on such an old platform.

The Phenom X4 850 is a quad core @ 3.3GHz and probably one of the best you could do on that platform.

They do appear to still go for $40-$50 on eBay though. I'd definitely stop shy of outright recommending it. That just seems waaay to expensive for what it is.

Found an AM3 motherboard here, however no graphics card slot, however, just need a pcie adapter for that, I think?

I agree with your interpretation.
This is a list of supported processors; there is no reason to include non supported processors.
But, at the top of the list highlighted in red it says N/A = not support ;
the processor is not supported.

On the list as supported by F6 is the Phenom X4 9750 which is a 125w part.
Since he OP already has both, why not try it and see?

Truthfully, I can't see spending anything on such an old platform.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-SG3-Desktop-PC-series/4169543/model/4229010

This is the pc I'm hoping can take the Phenom, however, no graphics card slot, just chipset graphics, but it does seem to have 'Socket AM3' written above the CPU slot, hoping to be in luck, but I can't seem to find much online.

What do you want this pc for?
Is it running now?
Reading the maintenance manual, it says no add in card that takes more than 2 amps @5v is supported.
That excludes all discrete graphics cards.
If you are missing a cpu, then buy a supported cpu and return the one you bought.
It looks like it can take another sata drive, if so, buy a ssd and you can use this pc as a simple desktop pc.
Suitable only for internet browsing or email. Not really for qaming
