I have an alienware 17 laptop the lastest model with thunderbolt 3 but no dp. I was wondering if i get a thunderbolt 3 to dp adapter then will it be able to support a 144hz monitor (benq xl 2720) thank you!

Yeah you can support 144hz monitor. You don't need an adapter, thunderbolt is actually a mini display port with additional features (which i won't bother explaining since they are not the topic of this thread). Basically all you need is a mini display port to display port cable, which is a pretty standard display port cable after all.

Something like this, easy to find, cheap as well.
Hope I was helpful.

And if I would do that, how do i then connect my Razer Blade to ethernet

He is not talking about Thunderbolt as found on macs of the past.. I have no knowledge of if they still have that thunderbolt connection, I do not claim to know about Macs.

I do however have a Razer Blade 14 2016 gtx1060 with Thunderbolt (the Alienwares have this same "new" thunderbolt connections), I have a Thunderbolt to Display port cable and I run 144hz 2K monitor with it.. GSYNC does not seem to work as of now, but I'm sure that's software related, and fixable. Thunderbolt has a bigger potential throughput then Display Port so... Theoretically there should be no bottleneck to the extent of using up all the potential throughput of a normal DP cable.

I've read many people using thunderbolt to Display Port adapters as well with success, get a quality one because they aren't all the same.

*please note in my case, with my monitor, I sometimes have trouble getting the computer to recognize and power on/connect to my monitor.

What adapters do you use? I have a Razer blade with a gtx 1060 as well and want to use tb3 to game at 144hz and want to know what company to buy the cables from
