Will two High End Graphic Cards Make a Difference?

To my surprise, I couldn't find this anywhere. You mainly see people talk about one high end graphic card, or two mid graphic cards. I was wondering, will two high end graphic cards increase FPS and performance? Is it worth it?

I don't plan to use two high end graphic cards. This thread is purely discussion.

But while I have you, let's say I wanted to use two Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB AMP! Extreme Video Cards. I would need a 4K monitor for it to actually make a difference?

I would say so, A single 980ti, is already all you need to max games at 1440p so until you get to 4K that extra horsepower is not needed and is just producing FPS that you cannot see. an example would be buying a 980ti, and a 5960X and playing minecraft at 1080p with medium settings you cannot tell just how much power is being wasted as you can only see up to around 60 FPS, so anything over that is wasted power.

People will pair up GPU's for multiple screen setups as well, I know people that go with 3 1440p monitors, in which case an extra card is usefull.

There are also people that when they fall behind a generation, buy a second card to get their power boost instead of getting one of the new cards, either they can obtain the old card cheaper, or buy it from a friend or other methods, which can make it worth value-wise.

However honestly, SLI does bring it's problems, between doubling power consumption(or more depends on how many GPU's you plan using) the heat also goes up, as well as some games not being compatible or having issues fully supporting SLI, which is why personally I wouldn't say buy 2 lower end cards and get a SLI setup, instead of paying a bit more for a single more powerfull card.

The benifits don't outweight the cons in my opinion, but it all boils down to the situation, and personal preference/use.

^ my argument was based purely on a single monitor, yes if you want multiple then it becomes useful but even two 1440p monitors with a 980ti will still work.

Two 980 Ti's playing on a 1440p @ 144 Hz display, would see a major improvement. It's also worthwhile on a ultra wide 3440 x 1440 display. I addition two 980 Ti's would work miracles with GPU rendering.
