will upgrading my cpu improve game fps?

right now, i have a core i3-2120 and a gtx 660 graphics card. I upgraded my gpu from a gts 450 hoping that it will help improve gaming, but it didnt improve as much as i expected so i am thinking that it is my processor holding me back. if that is the case, then what should i upgrade to?

i have 2 sticks, 2gb, and 4 gb. total of 6GB of RAM

hmmm, if I remember right that usually forces it into single channel mode, that can sometimes bottleneck perf aswell, best to get a 2x4gb kit.
