Hi there,

I play a wide range of games but the main one I want to be able to play are GTA V and X-Plane 11.

GTA V, for example, if I play it, the settings need to be low but it also lags my PC alot so I can't do anything else and once i close GTA V, it takes a while for the PC speed to be restored. So in about 1 week I'm getting some birthday cash and want to upgrade. My current specs:

AMD x4 860K 3.7 ghz
8GB ddr3 Ram
Nvidia GTX 750ti

I'm looking at going to a 1060 as i don't think it'll bottleneck my CPU. Will i see performance gains? FPS Increases? Thank you.

Solution
GTAV is relatively cpu hungry. and your cpu is relatively slow.

Try running YOUR games but lowering the resolution and graphics options.
If your performance improves, your cpu is strong enough for a stronger graphics card.

A stronger graphics card will always give better FPS, but in your case, the increase may not be as much as if you changed out the cpu(and motherboard and ram) for a current gen processor.

So does that mean the "lag" I experience on my PC from GTA V will go away?

Right now your GPU is holding you back.
A GeForce GTX 1050 (GTX 1050 ti) is a good match for the AMD X4 860K.
If you get a GTX 1060 you might not see faster game play, compared to the GTX 1050 with the CPU.

If I got the 1050ti, how much performance gains do you think I'll see?

Not entirely since GTA V really likes the CPU but you would have MUCH less while being able to crank up the settings more.

The person above said I'd be better with the 1050ti, do you think that?

Yeah 1050 ti would be as far as I would go with your CPU. It would be a lot faster than the 750 ti, not on the graph but the 950 was already quite a bit faster than the 750 ti.

Depends. The GTX 1060 will perform better than the 1050ti so you would have a better experience but the 1050 ti is cheaper and still very capable.

If you have the money for the 1060, then go for that. If you want to save some money, go for the 1050 ti.

Basically I can afford a 1050ti new and and a 1060 used. Thanks for your help guys
