Im changing my motherboard and I read that you need to install windows again (I have seen the method that can avoid needing to do so but Id rather not). I'm no expert with this or really not an expert of anything involving computers but considering I have windows 10 right now, would changing my motherboard and reinstalling windows overlap with the existing one or cause some type of problem?

Solution
It sort of depends where the something goes wrong. if the error occurs in the installation before you choose the drive to install win 10 on, then yes, you could just put the old motherboard back in.

But if the problem happens after you have formatted the drive that has windows on it, you won't have windows to go back to as formatting drive wipes windows.

99% of time it will install fine, the only problems that sometimes occur is if Windows doesn't have the drivers it needs for the USB itself (only fix is use another USB drive) or there is another hardware problem.

boot from installer

when you reach the screen asking for licence, click "I don't...

very good point

Fair enough. If something goes wrong during the installation and I need to go back to try something to get it to work would I just need to reinstall the previous motherboard to get back into my pc? Im only working off one computer currently

when you reach the screen asking for licence, click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will continue to install and then once it is completed, follow the link I showed above to reactivate licence.

Solution

Thanks for clearing that up for me, its my main concern for the most part. I have seen a few tutorials the other day so I think I can manage to attempt an installation, along with the reactivation part. My only other concern is if I might've uninstalled incorrectly. All I did was plug in a brand new USB, used media creation tool to download what is needed onto it and thats it. Should I be good to go? Just wanting to be 100% sure so I dont have to take my computer to a shop since I have no access to a different computer if I do end up needing to fix something in the worse scenario, like the installation failing due to reasons that you stated

One advantage is if the USB is not accepted, the error for that would happen before you had deleted windows. so if it did happen you could just put old motherboard back in and it should work.

The chances of the USB not working are slim. You should be fine if you used Media Creation tool to create the USB (and not just copied media creation tool onto USB as that won't boot).

You sound like you have everything you need now.

Good to know. Also I had forgotten about this but when I boot i have 2 windows 10 that I have to choose from, one is broken (black screen after selecting it) and the other one works normal as it should. I have no idea why there is a broken windows as well as no clue where it is on my computer but would that have some type of conflict with a new windows install? Going off of what 13thmonkey said, assuming everything on any drive connected gets wiped, should I just leave my ssd and hdd connected so they get wiped and hopefully removing the broken windows 10? I dont mind losing everything on my PC so I just want to know if thatll be a problem. Or I could do a reset prior to installing the new motherboard if thatll help

can you right click start
choose disk management
take a screenshot like this showing both drives
