Will Windows 7 Updates work with Kaby Lake

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if Windows 7 updates will work with Kaby Lake on a fresh install? I know Windows 7 can be installed, but I was not sure about updates.

On my current build Skylake I have to apply a patch before updates will work when doing a fresh install, but they do work.

officially no. and windows 7 is hard to install on a kabylake and skylake PC because you don't get access to USB ports to use a keyboard and mouse during the install because windows 7 is not supported with newer chipsets

Yes.
I can still get updates on windows 7, not that they are worth much.
Mostly they are for software like office security issues.
Security essentials still gets updated.
You may get a nasty notice saying your cpu is not supported, but that is because of a updated that gives you the message so you will be coerced into downgrading to windows 10.
You can uninstall thithat update.

On the usb/no driver install issue, the simple solution is to buy a sata attached dve drive for about $15 and use that to do your install.

I had no problem on Skylake installing Windows 7. I patched the Windows 7 ISO for USB drivers with a tool provided by gigabyte. I then installed the ISO via USB.

OK thanks for the info. For Kaby Lake it looks like Windows 10 is the right choice. Thanks
