For very basic things like browsing 1 or 2 web pages you can get away with 2gb but anything more than that will lag. Also I have see Windows updates take ages on a 2gb machine

Anything of that sort then you need 4GB minimum and if you are interested in playing current gen games then 8GB is highly recommended.

4gb is your absolute minimum but ideally you want 8gb for those activities.
