Hi so I need to update my BIOS on an HP Pavilion p7-1236s so I can get my new GPU to work in it. Unfortunately I went to the site to upgrade it and there was no update BIOS link. However there was two for this computer IF I had Windows 8. I remember a thread on here where a guy with a similar problem got it fixed by using the Windows 8 BIOS but never reported back any problems. Here's the thread link http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2154855/bios-issue.html. The answer says a BIOS is not OS dependent and I was wondering if anyone could verify this, but also tell me if anything can go horribly, terribly, Eldritch abomination bad. My apologies for the lack of punctuation.

Solution
It should go fine. Just DO NOT turn off the system while it updates. This can and probably will result in corrupted BIOS and no way to boot into Windows.

I would recommend backing up anything important just in case because the Windows BIOS updates are notorious for freezing halfway.
Well basically when I tried plugging a GPU into my comp it just made a bunch of beeping noises and left me at a "press esc key to enter startup menu" and even though I pressed esc all it did was beep. I researched it and found at least 20 others with this same problem and the only ones who had it fixed were people who updated their BIOS. So that's why I believe that.

Alright I'll try it then report back and green button one of you if it works. If it doesn't and my comp gets bricked then oh well I guess I'll just have to get a new motherboard, then I'll come back and update on what not to do with BIOS lol.
