With all the praise I saw for it on the boards, I just ordered the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 cooler. However, I ran across a couple of mentions of it blocking two of the memory slots on a couple of motherboards. Does anyone know if it does so on the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R board I also ordered? This would be a problem, as I intend to fill up all 4 memory slots. If I am so unfortunate as to have that be the case, any recommendations for a nice smaller cooler that wouldn't block any memory slots? Doesn't have to be insane cooling, as I only plan on OCing my E8400 to 3.6 Ghz.
Will XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 block two of my RAM slots?

Don't know about the Xigmatek, but I think its very similar to the OCZ Vendetta 2 which I use on my EP35-DS3R without any problems with ram clearance.

The V2 works great, my core temps are sitting at around 45-46C on the Q6600 o/c to 3.2G, thats with all 4 cores at 100% for the last 3 weeks running FAH SMP version and the GPU version as well. The 4 Scythe Slipstream 120s help keep the P182 cool and quiet.

Has a Thermal Resistance of 0.16°C/Watt and looks harder to install.
I see also that the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is selling for $27
Has a Thermal Resistance of 0.17°C/Watt and looks easier to install.
Is the difference that great to warrant a $10 dollar premium, with the attendant installation aggravation.

Ac7 pro and the xigmatek aren't even in the same league, the xigmatek is one of the highest performing air coolers, while still being relatively cheap, while the ac7 is a just a budget cooler, not performance.

OP... no Xigmatek won't block your RAM slots. Buy it without any tension.

I have the xigmatek hdts1283 and corsair XMS2 ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145194. With the taller heatsink on the ram itself, if I were to be using the closest ram slots to the cpu it wouldn't clear. I am thus limisted to using slots 1 and 3 and wouldn't be able to use slots 2 and 4 for ram. I suppose it depends on the ram. the XMS2 or OCZ reaper with heatsink probably wouldn't clear under the fan.

I also run the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX without a clearance issue on the eVGA 750i FTW motherboard. Obviously the eVGA motherboard has mroe room between the socket and memory, and it looks like it will occupy the one memory slot closest to the cpu socket, unless you flipped the cooler backwards, and then flipped the fan so it pulled air through the cooler.
It'd be useful if you guys with the Xigmatek (or other large coolers) would also list the case you have!! These are the things that are impossible to find out for sure just from the manuf. website etc... you need to build it to know about size , airflow etc..
So go! Xigmatek, GA-EP35 mobos and cases... let us know!

XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 and Thermal Right Ultra 120 Extreme fit into my
CM Centurion 5 (older CAC-T05 with 80mm front intake), GA-P35-DS3P
CM RC-690 (side fan removed and mounted elsewhere), GA-P35-DS3P
CM Stacker STC-T01 (the older 2004 model), GA-P35-DS3P
without issues.

^The problem with this method is that it's hard to do a precise measurement. I've built several paper models back in the days of SuperOrbs and Volcanos to figure out if they could be mounted. I used specs and blueprints(technical drawings) from the manufacturer (TT) and still had issues when I tried to mount it after I bought it.

would the 1283 be too big mounted with the longest side (length)horizontally (90 degrees to pci slots) for the 750i FTW's NB cooler w/fan attached? that's the only thing stopping me from buying that board right now!
With a quad core, the cooler would have to be mounted across the northbridge, as the cores are in a different allignment to the dual cores (which you have to twist the cooler 90 deg thereby, the longest side of the cooler may block RAM slot/s)
As i'm getting a Q6600, im not worried about the RAM slots, (and im only using 2 sticks anywho) im worried about the NB obstructing it especially with the fan attached!!
