Hey Forum,

I'm having a hard time with my girlfriend's desktop.

She started having problems waking it from sleep mode, where switching off the power from the wall and then freshly booting was needed to get it going and even then the start up was very slow.

The same thing happened again today but when she was trying to log in, she was met with an RCP error, server unavailable.

I went for a restart and the system is now seemingly looping for ages on start up and not reaching the login screen.

I've system restore won't successfully complete and neither will a windows reset.
The boot repair didn't do anything to help either.
I can reach the login screen in Safe mode, but still get the RCP server error.

The specs are:
Core i7 3770
Gigabyte ga-h77m-d3h
16gb RAM
Seasonic 430w PSU
WD Blue 1TB HDD
TP-Link PCI-e wireless network card

Running Windows 10

I'm sort of at a loss as to what to do here, short of a full system reinstall, which isn't ideal.

Any help here is appreciated.

Remote Procedure Call Server error

this is for win 8, most of it should still work for win 10
1- booted from recovery USB

2- did DISM .... /scanhealth, then DISM/ restorehealth

3- boot normal but this time got the RPC error

4- so again did boot from recovery USB

5- from command prompt did this:

- chkdsk c: /f
took about 5 hours to finish

- sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows (took while to finish )

6- booted in Safe mode - OK

7- booted in Normal mode - OK

8- did WinUpdate - OK

9- did one restorepoint manually.
