Upgraded to win 10 from win 7 online about 2 weeks ago and it worked fine until a couple of days ago, there was an update wo win 10 and the next time i restarted the desktop I am now stuck in a bootloop

computer specs are at bottom of this post

system restore does not work.... "need to specify which installation to restore" but no options are available

automatic repair does not work

reset this pc tells me the drive is locked

chkdsk /f does not work: file system is ntfs, cannot lock current drive, can't run disk check because volume is write protected

chkdsk tells me: "warning! F parameter not specified." "read only chkdsk found bad on-disk uppercase table - using system table" "Stage
3: errors detected in the uppercase file" "windows has checked the file system and found problems." then tells me to run with /F to fix issues ...which i can't do.

used rufus software to load windows 10 iso to usb drive but it does not work....seems like it's not booting from the usb.

going back to previous build does not work

system image recovery failed: system cannot find file specified (0x80070002)

System File CHecker tool from bios tells me: " there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" but i've rebooted 10 times and nothing changes.

how do i fix this?

hi Johnnyb105,

cannot enter bios thru startup for some reason and on the troubleshooting advanced options section, there is no option for startup settings to get to bios that way.

Can't enter bios using delete key at startup, it's ignored . F2 or F12 do not respond either if i try them.

just tried restarting with the iso burned to dvd and it doesn't start from dvd, it continues to windows loading screen as usual and then goes straight to "preparing for repair" which does nothing

I can hear the dvd drive engage at startup so it's functioning but does not fully start and run the win10 iso burned to it

I've been trying that but I can't get to bios. Tried dozens of different key pressing combinations at startup and nothing happens. continues on to Win 10 login , then repair, then troubleshooting page from which nothing works ...except to turn off the computer

is there any other way to get to bios from the advanced options troubleshooting page?

gonna to to access and fix boot issues with this , then hopefully i can get to bios

fix issue with boot corruption
1. Bootrec.exe/ScanOs
2. Bootrec.exe/RebuildBcd

Bios load before windows only way you can is if your keyboard is being ignored by bios configuration or to entet bios is being ignored by the configuration in bios.

Some boards you can get to bios from windows. .. via running a program..
can you get to safe mode?
You can't get to bios via startup options you used to be able from windows 8.1 I think. But I'm not 100% when you press power button what's on the screen before windows logo?

You might need to get a external enclosed for your hdd to plug into a spare pc via USB and remove the lock and security crap. Doing this will allow you to complete the check disk/f and reset pc. In advance startup .. please tell me when booting your spam pressing the delete key or f2 or what ever it is. If you only press it once your doing it wrong.

Hi Alexx,

I am continuously pressing the buttons very fast. In regards to the first part of your post, you're saying to pull the ssd C drive (drive that is locked and not booting) put it in an ssd enclosure and then plug it into another computer and do what first? Run check disk/f?

does the other computer I'm pluggin the drive into need to be windows 10 as well? It is Win7.

Also, would it be a waste of time to try this first?

fix issue with boot corruption
1. Bootrec.exe/ScanOs
2. Bootrec.exe/RebuildBcd

thanks for your guidance!!! After a couple days of this I feel like I'm getting close to a solution.

I ran check disk/f when i connected to another computer and it says it fix a few things, i put it back in the desktop and tried to boot and i'm still getting the same problem. It didn't fix it.

i ran it again and now it says windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

what next?

That drive encloser will work fine.. windows os won't matter you plug it in with usb go to my pc and right click the extra hdd property's. Security and changed the settings. You have to unlock it first before you use check disk/f otherwise you'll get same error" this disk is locked" .You could repair the drive with it being plugged into another pc but then i dont think that won't work well when you plug it back into your desktop. Bc itl repair it self with the configuration to the current pc that it's connected to.

I'd recommend plugging it into another pc and removing the lock and security. Also remove the anti virus while your at it. Remove the anti virus because they can mess with the hdd when you try repair the hdd.you can install it again after you have fixed the

Try run cmd as administrator.  Have you changed the security permissions?. Not sure why it says 21gb... look disk management drive might of gone weird due to stuck in boot loop.

Sorry took so long to respond.
Plug your hdd into another pc and remove security crap. The plug it back into your desktop with a windows is or somthing on a usb. Boot into bios and over ide to boot to usb usb that has windows 10 nstaller should repair the drive

Or you can just remove security crap and put back in desktop and system restore.

i'm in the properties for the drive and looking at the security tab . what do i need to change to unlock the drive? Right now, in the "Group or user names:" section it has "Authenticated Users" highlighted.
What should that be?

Do i edit and change permissions?

ive sent you a private message.

trying to unlock the drive and getting this error:

"an error occurred while applying security information to: E:\Program Files and E:\Program Files (x86) and a bunch of other folders

i plugged the drive into the usb port on another computer and started to unlock it following these direction exactly:

Follow these steps from the administrator account:

a. Click “Start” and click “Computer”.
b. Right-click “C” and click “Properties”.
c. Click the “Security” tab.
d. Click “Authenticated Users” and click “Edit”.
e. Select “Authenticated Users” again.
f. Under “Permissions for Authenticated Users”, click “Allow”.
g. Click “Apply”.
h. Click “Yes” when prompted by a “Windows Security” dialog box.

Should I have been trying to unlock "SYSTEM", not "Authenticated Users"?

What did i do wrong?

You need to add some security permissions.and replace all child ones. That error happens when a file is protected. Can still be changed but your focused on changing security of the drive itself and it's windows folder contents.

So I shouldn't worry about that folder error at this point since it is only signalling a folder issue and I'm trying to change the entire drive?

It looks like all permissions for this drive under "Authenticated Users" are set to "allow" except for "special permissions".

So i should be put this back into the desktop and try to boot from bios and then run repair disk, correct?

yeah put your drive back in and try restore it or repair it again, if that don't work well. might need to try repairing the drive when its connected to another computer.
