[SOLVED] Win 10 quit connecting to other computer

Home network consists of a Win7 machine, 2 XP machines, and a shared printer.

I just bought a Dell Laptop with Win10 V1803 on it. Out of the box I was able to connect to the network via WiFi.

Later, I took it close to the router to plug in LAN so I could get faster D/L for some things off the internet. I noticed that I lost network connectivity. Still had internet access.

I don't remember what all I did (Win10 is new to me), but 5 minutes later the laptop was networked again.

Now I've disconnected the LAN cable and am back to WiFi and all I can connect to is the internet. Apparently, a lot of folks have went thru this, and I have found only one "solved" online which didn't work for me.

I made sure both the "function discovery" services were set as everyone recommends, played with the SMB protocol settings, turned "file printer sharing" off and on.

Last thing I tried was resetting all network adapters and restarting.

Along the way I had also re-booted the router. So far.... nada.

Maybe I did things in the wrong order?

Verify that the Dell laptop has only one network adapter, either wired or wireless, enabled - not both.

On the laptop run "ipconfig /all" (no quotes) via the command prompt.

Post the results.

Device Mgr. showed two adapters installed and working;

Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 Driver

According to the event log, the two network adapters were both installed a few weeks b4 I received the laptop.

I disabled the adapter that appears to be for a wired connection and ran ipconfig. (after re-boot);

Last night I got frustrated and looked for a restore point.... found one created a couple hours after I first touched this machine and reverted OS to that point. This took a couple of hours watching a "please wait" screen.

Then I set about repeating all the setting changes related to networking per online suggestions I had read earlier in the day. When I finally got to clicking on SMB Direct, then my local area network showed up again.

This morning however it disappeared .... until a minute ago. LAN seems to come and go as it pleases. Nice work billy boy!

Solved the network problem with Windows 10......

Got rid of Windows 10 and installed older more reliable OS..... I confess this took a few days with my work schedule, but then adding the machine to my home network and testing everything took all of 2 minutes.
