Question Win 10 taskbar thumbnails disappear after couple of seconds

Good day
I bought a new HP laptop and installed the minor applications for work.
Bitdefender, Office, SAP, etc...

However since day one I have this issue where the taskbar tumbnails disappear after a couple of seconds when hovering over them. This is SO frustrating! I have ALOT of applications open and therefore need to constantly switch between them. For the thumbnail to just disappear is horrific!

Has anyone ever experienced this and how to fix it? I am wondering if this is not some application running in the background doing this. I tried closing multiple applications in task manager, but with no luck.

Heya,

I would recommend adding an additional user to Windows, restart the machine and log on with the second account. See if the issue still appears there.
If not, then it is account related and maybe either some setting or as you mentioned some app.
If it also happens on a new account, we would need to check further.

I would recommend the step with the secondary user. You may delete him afterwards.

Ok so I created a secondary user.
It still happens with the secondary user.
Recommendation?

If it happens for all users, but not in safe mode, I would think it is either a driver issue or an app that permanently runs in the background. My first guess would be display driver, though. Try to update all your video related drivers (you might have more than one on a laptop) via device manager.

Try doing a clean boot - read instructions carefully and make sure NOT to disable any MIcrosoft services, its always possible its a startup program causing the problem - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if it fixes, slowly (over a few startups) add the services and programs you stopped to find the cause.

No luck updating the display drivers to the latest.
No luck deleting and letting windows reinstall the display drivers.
Going to try Colif's suggestion next.
