win 10 vs win 8.1 footprint

I have a Dell laptop with a 32Gb SSD that I will use to control a CCD camera in the field. Win 10 is installed and takes up 20 Gb disc space. I could install Win 8.1, which would operate the camera/drivers OK. What is the footprint of Win 8 vs Win 10? Would I save enough ssd space to be worth the effort?

The computer has limited disc space and I'm wondering if Win 8.1 will use less disc space than Win 10 ??

The OS footprint is going to similar between Win 8.x and Win 10. What specific model Dell are you using?

It is similar. If anything, Win 10 is a little bit smaller, due to not having 5 years of updates built up.

Either OS, a 32GB drive is only *barely* able to contain the OS and your application.
Any data created by that camera absolutely need to go to a different drive.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron I-3180, admittedly a low end 'puter.
I'll plan to add an external drive (I have a 128Gb SSD left over from another upgrade).
And I'll stay with Win 10.
