Hi Folks,
Anyone have any experience installing win2k pro on an e-machine? I tried on a friends last night and it failed. It "seemed" to refuse to place ntldr in the boot sector, and that *&%$#% e-machine logo kept popping up before anything else. Is that possibly in the bios? Arrrgg!!

The machine is an e-tower 566ir w/64 meg ram and 15 gig HD. The audio & vidio are on the MB. I took the HD and hooked it on my Win2k machine and the winnt directory was present as well as ntldr in the root. I formated and repartitioned and am ready to try again. Any ideas??? Thanks.

Try using "fdisk /mbr" this will destroy the old master boot record which may be holding you up. You don't have to fdisk the entire disk and reformat after you do this, as it only erases the mbr.

And yes the logo is in the bios. No way to get rid of it unless the bios specifically allows it.

Yes...The E Machine startup logo is a pain in the ass. There's no way to disable it i the bios but if you want to get rid of it at boot up press the tab key when it first shows up.
