Win 7 can't see wireless keyboard in booting

When I boot my PC with win 7 64 bit home prem., It says no keyboard present. It used to find it on rebooting. It is a Microsoft laser 6000 keyboard, wirerless. I have to hook another PS2 keyboard up to enter the setup. Can any one shed some light on this. Thanks.

I once had a problem where a conflict from other USB devices was causing the wireless keyboard to not be recognized during boot. I had an external hard drive along with a printer hooked up to a pair of USB ports, then on another pair I had the wireless keyboard/mouse receiver plugged in.

My first inclination that the problem lied in the USB was that the wireless mouse wasn't receiving a signal and so on boot it wasn't being powered on. Thats when I took a stab at it being a problem with some of the USB components.

Unplugged the external HD and booted fine, swapped back in the HD and took out the printer and booted fine, put both back in and refused to boot due to the keyboard once again not getting power. I moved my HD to a separate pair of USB ports and with all 3 plugged in the comp booted just fine.

USB ports are paired by 1 wire back to the MOBO so if you have 2 USB devices plugged into one external pair of ports there is the off chance that they are conflicted.

Odd problem but it might work for you.

First of all thank you for responding. That was very helpful. I just now had a chance to mess with it. I pulled all my USB cables out except for keyboard and mouse. That worked , I was able to use the keyboard on a reboot and the mouse woke the pc up. I then plugged one usb device in at a time and got everything to work. So far it is working right. I had only one time it didn't recognize a device but that went away. Everything is working. I had a brand new Hard drive fail yesterday {smart alert and win 7 alert} and I think that failing drive could have been causing problems. Thanks again.
