Win 7 files move to my win 8.

I am trying to move "Works" .xlr files from my win 7 to my win 8.I have then on a disc,win 8 reads them but can't open them.

.xlr is a Microsoft Works file. Do you have MS Works installed on your Win8.1 installation?
Without that, there is nothing to open them.
