Win 7 or 8

if i dont have a touchscreen computer should i get window 8 for it or keep windows 7

Since Win 8 is not quite ready for prime time (I read maybe October for release) unless you want to play around I would keep the 7. My rule of thumb is wait for at least SP1 before I think about an OS change and only then if the new OS has been tested to yield significant benefits to me.

Windows 8 won't require a touchscreen. But it's also not yet available.
Don't use Win8 except for testing.

It's to early to tell but I ran 8 in VM and it was pretty awful on a regular PC. It runs pretty much like a tablet would with everything running on launch, nothing closes, just gets cycled out like a phone OS, judging by the task manager. I just hope the ridiculous UI isn't forced on users and it can be easily disabled. I would buy 8 if it has better files system, is more responsive and I can keep the old UI. Otherwise, I'll pass and I imagine lots of people feel the same.

well the Consumer Preview should be out at the end of february--the 29th

so you could try it in a virtual machine to see what its like

You will not ever get a clear answer I have read articles of people loving it and calling everyone haters and articles saying it sucks ala Windows ME or Vista. I have it running in a VM and will say it runs very well but I am really going to miss the start button and Metro is more of an annoyance to me I just want a desktop. It is all peoples opinions at this point. FYI all people playing with Windows 8 God mode still works yay... LOL

Windows 8 at the moment is to buggy to use for anything else other than for evaluation, this may change in the future. The Metro interface for use on the desktop is truly awful but you can turn it off and get the start button back with a registry hack.
