I have a properly configured Win 7 system with SSD boot drive. I redirected the user profiles to one of my HDD for storage. Installation and registry all pointed to d:\users\xxxx appropriately.
So... I have a new SSD to replace a HDD in another computer. I attempted to plug those in to my desktop system described above to format and clone the laptop drive to the new SSD. Well, I failed at that and tried to re-establish my desktop system...only now Windows doesn't load the user profile.
After plugging all the drives back, I had to re-lable the two HDDs, where the original storage HDD was labeled D:, it was now reassigned as E:. I navigated through the C: to disk management and swapped the drive letters, but the user profiles still don't load. All the registry items still point to D:\Users\xxxx.
I think I need to copy/delete the user directory from an admin account and then restart and paste them back into the D: so Windows will reestablish the links?
I think it self-critiquing that I shouldn't unplug the drives to clone my laptop drives, instead using a USB enclosure to do so. Besides that foolishness, can anyone help me re-establish my user profiles? A clean-install is an absolute last resort. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Good read and short. I'm beyond that point though. Specifically, I'm looking for direction how to reset the users directory to make windows refresh the links. I've seen documentation online, but I'm having trouble since it's been a couple years since.
