Win 7 to SSD

I have a dell laptop from 3-5 years ago with Win 7 that the HHD went bad on a while back. So I put it in the closet and just used my iPad instead. Now, I am building a new desktop for gaming with a new SSD. Can I somehow use that old Win 7 key to install Win 7 onto my new SSD?

Yes, it was the Win 7 that came on the laptop when I bought it. I thought maybe the key would still work if I did a fresh install.

you need to use it on the dell laptop did you made a recovery software from it .

It wont work as it needs to be a Dell version of Windows 7 and OEM keys are permanently tied to the motherboard.

If it's an windows 7 professional : it should activate.
Any home license won't .
