[SOLVED] Win 7 - Unable to Boot

My computer was running ok ( although a little slow) until 2 days ago when it would not boot. It continually switched off/on in a continuous loop. I stopped the loop but I have been unable to find or solve the problem. I am using my daughters old XP computer to write this.I would be very grateful for any assistance.
  • I am running the 64 bit version of Windows Home Premium.
  • When I start the computer I get a blue screen with the message – “STOP c000007b {Bad Image}. C:\windows\system32\winsrv.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error”.
  • I tried booting in safe mode and after the “windows loading files” screen I get a blue screen and the same message as in 1.
  • I then used F12 and the System Installation disc to boot. It took a long time for the Install screen to appear. I chose repair computer – startup repair. This went from “searching for problems” to “checking disc for errors” to “attempting repairs”. After a few minutes the screen went black and stayed this way for 30 minutes when I turned the machine off.
  • I rebooted from the Installation disc and went into dot prompt and tried to run sfc but got a message “there is a system repair pending which requires a reboot”.
  • Rebooted again, went into dot prompt and when I tried to run sfc I got the same message again as in 4.
I would appreciate any advice as to what I can try now. Is it possible to get the winsrv.dll file from somewhere and somehow load it onto my computer? Thank you.

Solution
Just go into the BIOS and change settings to Default.

To boot with 1 drive, shut your computer down and unplug it. Open it up and disconnect the SATA cable from D drive. Windows is almost always located on the C partition. If the 2nd drive is faulty it could be causing problems.
  1. Can I clear the CMOS without opening the case? I went into BIOS setup and checked "Fail Safe" settings and rebooted but again got the same blue screen I mentioned above;
  2. The Boot order in BIOS has HDD as 1;
  3. I do have 2 HHDs One is the C drive where the winserv.dll file resides. The other is the D drive where System Recovery shows Windows resides;
  4. Does your last point mean I should boot with only the D drive connected? If so could you please tell me how to do this.
Thank you for your initial response.

Can you get with a win 7 disc to run cmd outside windows?
I think it was shift + f10 , with the disc in.
If you get to cmd, check your windows/ system32/config folder for any registry backups.
First rename in cmd your system, software, sam, default files, then copy reg backups, and try.
It's worth a shot ! Try it ! :)

You can also do other stuff in cmd, depending on what you were doing before this happened.
