How do I upgrade from windows xp 32 bit to windows 7 32bit on a 32bit machine using a windows 64 bit cd? Is it even possible?
When I tried to start from the dvd the installer told be to start from within windows.
When I tried to run the installer in windows I got an error message saying that the disk isn't compatible with this version of windows.


P.S. I posted a previous thread regarding the same topic earlier but decided to start a new one since I have a new question.

No. You would need the 32 bit CD and then follow the instructions.

BTW, you can't directly upgrade from XP to Win 7. You must perform a clean install (boot from the DVD).

However, if you're a true masochist you can get there by going through Vista first.

This is VERY true! Been there, done that. Just make sure the Vista used is on the upgrade path for the Win 7 version to be used.

That is correct. You will need a 32-bit version of Vista to upgrade the 32-bit install of XP you have now. Then you will upgrade Vista to a 32-bit version of Windows 7.
