Win 98 & the 512MB barrier

Lets assume I have a system with Win98 SE & Win 2000.
Lets also assume I want to run more than 512MB of RAM for the Win 2000 side of things.

Does Win98 simply ignore memory above 512 or does it encounter problems?

Here is the information on the documented vcache problem.

<A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q253/9/12.ASP" target="_new">http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q253/9/12.ASP</A>

I don't know if there are additional problems.

I didn't answer your question.

It would appear that you can physically install more than 512mb of RAM in a system. Win2K would use the extra memory. Windows 9x would not.

Yeah, I reckon Win98 would simply ignore all memory above 512MB and get on with it.

This makes a dual OS set-up very worthwhile.

Here's another.

When you set your aperture to 128MB, it can create "out of memory" faults, due to the amount of free memory addresses.

Over 512MB can also create this problem.

At 512MB, has there been any problems known if the aperture is at 64MB?

I don't really understand how AGP aperture interfere's with vcache. However,if you are concerned you can restrict Windows 98 to use even less memory, say 384mb, which would reserve even more addresses. 384mb is more than enough memory for games which I am assuming is the only reason you need Windows 98 if you are willing to use Win2K.
