Win NT Server - corrupt boot record?

I have a Dell PowerEdge 4200.

I tried rebooting this morning and it gets 'stuck' just
before booting windows.

I ran FDSIK /MBR - no change.

I copied the root files (e.g. config.sys, autoexec.bat,
io.sys etcetera) from another NT system and I can now boot
from floppy.

Looking through FDISK, the first partition is correctly
set to Active.

I am trying to prevent a reinstall of the OS as this is a
high use server and although I have up to date backups, I
do not have an emergency repair disk nor have I a disk
image - lessons learnt!!!

Is there a way I can repair this situation?

Thank you for any pointers or assistance.

* Details of 'stuck' may help.

* Windows NT doesn't use these files to start the operating system. A wild
guess here but try booting the Windows NT Setup disks or CD-Rom and choose
"R" for Repair, then "R" to use repair process, then "M" for manual repair,
choose "Inspect Startup Environment" and "Inspect Boot Sector" only.

You're copying the wrong files
You need to copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM as well as
BOOT.INI (if the configuration is the same)

I went through something similar quite a while ago on a production server.
Microsoft couldn't help, even over several hours of trying. They even
revealed The Secret of the Hidden Boot-Block Backup to me, and I copied
that back over the original, with no success. Manual examination shows
the boot block to be correct.

I ended up making a floppy that boots me into NT.
