I have recently repaired a Win XP Pro install using a student version of XP Pro. This was after replacing a motherboard on a P4 3 GHz hyperthread system with 1 GB ram. All seems OK except that when I Shut Down, the computer re-starts after a second or so. Have checked all I can think of in Win and BIOS. All looks OK. Any ideas. One more thing: the on-board beeper gives a multi-tone tweet when I first access Task Mgr. Ok for subsequent times. Thanks, At. PS: MB is ASUS P5QL SE.

Thanks. I did that. Even with the front power switch and reset switch disconnected from the MB it did the same on "Turn Off". :fou:

How do you stop a thread? I have solved the problem: it was a crook board. Replaced with an identical one and it works fine. Thanks.
