Win10 Multiple Display options disappeared

I attempted to hook my laptop to a larger monitor, under Display Settings I did have the ability to select Duplicate, monitor 1 only, Monitor 2 only etc. This is under the Multiple Displays section.

I selected Monitor 2, both screens went black. When I unplug and go to Display Options I no longer have a selection of how multiple monitors will work, it only allows me to detect. If I plug a monitor in, both screens are black.

My goal is to have my laptop monitor shut off when plugged into a second monitor.

Any ideas? I don't know why I only have a "detect" option now.

I think you need to boot into safe mode and change it from there to go back to the display settings
