Latest Win10 update 1803 will never finish installing. I have seen on other comments to Microsoft that it will not install in older computers. Is this true or do I have to reinstall Win10 and then upgrade to 1803?

I have tried Microsoft's solution of unplugging peripherals on USB ports. I disabled Window's Update in services and rebooted. I deleted what they allow you to delete in C:/Windows/Software Distribution. I got the message that the system needs to give me permission to delete the remaining 7 or 8 MB that remained. It deleted nearly 9 GB of old updates but made no difference. The Update downloaded version 1803 and updated the system to a reboot where the system hangs on a non reactive Windows Logo. I have to hard restart and it reverts to version 1709. This takes a very long time to go through and it happens daily. Hopefully setting the delay on any further updates that they allow you to do will prevent this until I get a solution.
UPDATE:::
Turns out the bios when it is set for virtual reality needed to be turned off. THE END

I had to perform a clean install to get one of my setups to run 1809.
How old is your BIOS and what manufacturer is it?

I tried to use a newly burned DVD ISO with version 1809 on it but it hangs as well. I did verify the burn and it works in the windows environment till the reboot hang (again). I fear i try and do a clean install and it will hang again. I mounted the download version of 1809 on the HD and it downloads and installs 100% and hangs on reboot just the same as auto update and the burned DVD.
