My problem is concerning windows detecting when a cd or dvd is inserted into the dvd-rom drive. There are times when I put in a cd and click on d: drive, but windows gives me a message to insert disc into d: drive even though the cd is in. This is also happening to my cdrw drive also. Can anybody help me on this problem. It will read the cd if the computer is rebooted. It happens about 25% of the time.

do you have direct cd or any other packet writing software running? are your ide drivers up to date?

If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?

The only writing program I have installed is nero burning-rom. I don't have all the drivers updated, but this problem never occured in windows 98 second edition

1:drivers need updating
2:98 and xp are apples and oranges

One way of getting around it, as i seem to experience this occasionally, is to rick click on the drive then select 'eject'. Once you close your drawer again, this process seems mostly sufficient for Windows to acknowledge that a new cd is in there.

The windows 2000 is a clean install, I had to get rid of windows 98 due to conflicts within programs. I was wondering if any of you might know drivers will work with a Pioneer DVD-Rom 500m, since this drive is oem. Thanks

This solution isn't working. I can't find the drivers for pioneer dvd-rom 500m or its equivalent the 118. Should I just reinstall windows 2000? Thanks
