DMA settings can be found in Device Manager, but not under Disk drives like in Win98, but under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Then you choose Properties for Primary or Secondary IDE channel and click on Advanced Settings.
Well now I'm slightly confused. ;-) It should be in System (Hardware tab) > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Primary (or Secondary) IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Settings. I looked it up on Win2000FAQ Site now, try following this address http://www.windows2000faq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=13847
Ledzep: It has to be there is you are looking in the right place. I will be under the properties of the Primary or Secondary IDE controller within the Device Manager. Let us know if you find it. I have yet to see Win2k not set the options correctly on this, but I would guess that it could get detected wrong on some older equipment.
first of all, i have posted 2 screenshots here. as you can see there is no advanced tab. my assumption is that because it doesn't say primary or secondary device channel but rather it says VIA BM Ultra DMA Channel, dma is already enabled. is this a safe assumption?
kind of off thread topic but...can some of you check out my other thread a few titles down "freezing problem - not irq 9" and see if you can help. my computer froze twice while writing my last reply after being on for 60+ hours without a problem.
Your device manage screens are different than mine. Did you intsall a VIA busmaster driver? When I tried to install the drivers it said that the VIA busmaster drivers were for win98 only. Did you somehow force the driver install?
You should then have a program group called DMATOOL. Open this program and it'll tell you if DMA is enabled or not, and it also gives you the choice of enabling it or not.
has anyone had a problem with a plextor 12/10/32a not being able to be set to dma mode in win2k? it stays in pio mode 4 even though i know it supports dma, any possibilities?
If at first you don't succede, skydiving isn't for you.

Yes, your Plextor should be using dma. Before I switched mine to dma the buffer would run out, then fill itself, then run out, then.... I got my moneys worth of BURN-Proof quickly!! Now with dma enabled I'm a burning fool.
Antipop, did you ever check to see if you were using an 80 wire or 40 wire cable? Is you burner the only device connected to the cable and is it connected to the end connector? Forgive me if you already answered these questions earlier.
