i have a p2 350 with 256 ram and have upgraded to win2kpro from win98se. when my computer gets to the desktop after starting up, it takes at least a minute before i can attempt to connect to dsl. there is a little loading right before i am able to connect, but this is after a minute fo silence from the hd. is there anything i can do to make the dsl connection available faster (if not immediately)?

what kind of DSL modem are you using?......does it connect to the ethernet card in your pc?

Also, do some research on Services, there are a lot of unrequired Services that load at start up....also adding a Service or two may speed up the DSL load process.

One more thing, removing start up programs in 2K requires using Regedit, there is no MSConfig...you may know that but figured I would mention it.

u need to upgrade the drivers for your ethernet card...you might be able to find them at microsoft.com in there "download update center"...i found mine in the drivers section after i upgraded to win2k

Sometimes you have to remind yourself it's your own life, live it.

It depends on your modem, If you have a DSL modem/router, Like the cisco 67x series, your router is always online even if your computer is off. If this is the case you can set up a simple network with nat and dhcp server enabled, set your pc to have an internal static ip that the router recognises as such, than the only hangup would be the startup services on your pc, minimize these and you should be good to go. I have used this configuration for years now and the problems are minimal.

there are absolutely no absolutes
