Win2K says CDRW is SCSI?

Windows2000 Professional Device Manager states that my CDRW and CDROM are SCSI devices. Both these devices are actually IDE. I believe that when I use NERO v5 to burn data, this causes problems. I cannot burn a CD. How do I get Win2K to recognise my CDRW & CDROM as IDE devices?

My system details are as follows:

ASUS A7V133 Socket A Motherboard VIA KT133A ATX + ATA100-RAID
AMD Duron 800Mhz CPU + Fan
256Mb Hyundai PC133 SDRAM DIMM
ASUS V7700 32Mb DDR AGP Pure GeForce 2 GTS Video Adapter
IBM 45Gb 75GXP (DTLA-307045) 7200RPM ATA100 2Mb
AOpen HQ-08 Fulltower Case ATX 300 watt
Creative Soundblaster Live Digital PCI
Panasonic 1.44Mb 3.5" FDD
Plextor (PlexWriter 12x10x32A) CDRW IDE with BurnProof
Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical Mouse
Logitech Internet Keyboard with iTouch
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP1
VideoLogic Sirroco Speakers with 100 watt amplifier
Mitsubishi DiamondView 19NF 19" Monitor
Liebert PS700MT-230 Powersure Interactive 700va UPS

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Crazed Camel.

My machine did the same thing and it was the Busmastering driver. I used the one from windows update and it went away

It's legacy from NT. Win NT has always reported devices it knows nothing about as SCSI, even though there not. It won't change performance or do anything to the system it's just a wonderful quirk microsoft left in the OS.

I forgot to add, the reason why you cannot burn has to be a different problem. Is your version of nero win2K compatable? Is there an update at the software vendors website? Try using differnt burning software.

i (as well as many other people) had the same problem burning cd's when the device manager recognizes the drives as scsi. either remove the via busmaster drivers and use the default win2k busmaster drivers, or install the via 4in1 version 4.29 servicepack.

I know there are some driver issues with Win2k and NT. Try installing the software that came with your burner first. You may have to uninstall and reinstall Nero.

It has something to do with win2k and NT not supplying some of the default ATAPI drivers that come standard on win 98. But I know that Adaptec's CD creator provides these drivers. Check Plextor's websight as well.

Slightly against what other poeple are thinking - what channel do you have the devices on - the Primary/secondary ATA or the promise extended ones? Win2K will always see the promise controller as a SCSI device, even though it is an IDE controller (don't ask) and this might confuse Nero. Install the CDRW on the secondary onboard IDE and it should be okay.

if you read what he has in his system he is not using a promise card, its the chipset driver. just went thru that bouncing back and forth between 4.28 and 4.29 , to see what was better. and it kept disappearing oncei loaded up the 4.29 drivers.
