I have compaq with win95. It came with a restore disk that does not work. I would like to reinstall windows but do not have the full version and can not get the quick restore to work.
I am supposed to instert the disk restart the computer. Once I do that I get a blank black screen and nothing else happens.

Make sure your CDROM is functional. In fact, make sure your computer will at least boot with a startup disk. I assume you're talking about a CD disc, not a floppy restore disk.

I have had run the restore cd many times with my Compaq. I've learned my lesson, no more Compaq's for me! If you go to their website, I believe you can order a new restore cd. Try that, maybe your cd is bad. If that doesn't work consider upgrading your OS. I just run plain Win98se. It gives me no problems so why should I shell out big bucks for the newer MS OS's? Right now you can pick up a Win98 cd for real cheap. That's what I would do if I were you. Good luck!

have you changed any hardware from the way it was origionally? i have had problems in the past where people "forget" to tell me they have a new piece of hardware in their system and the restore disk, therefore cannot restore the system back to its origional state.
