Can anyone tell me why my Maxtor 7.2 GB HD is shown as a Type 80? For some reason WIN98 is showing it this way. In the past it was listed as a Type 47 HD. What would cause this to happen?

I have 2 HDs; main HD is Maxtor 13 GB and it is listed as Type 47.

Is it effecting anything? or does it just bother you? Have you changed motherboards? updated motherboard BIOS, changed the tranfer rate on the harddisk to a different ATA standard, moved the jumpers on the drive? etc... All of these could change what Windows reports, but if you are not having any problems, why even mess with?

No I haven't changed anything on it. It used to be slaved off my master HD, but it is now secondary master with a CDR-W as slave.

It used to be the main HD and reported as a type 47. It seems to be working fine at the moment. :)

I did run HDTach on it and there is a big drop in performance at around 3 GB, though.

I was just wondering why Windows started saying it was type 80 all of a sudden.

Interesting problem however, I will see what I can find out on that.
