Windforce R9 280x preforms better than my brand new geforce 1070... How? What the heck is going on?

I've just bought the geforce 1070 the other day. Plugged it all in, tested it on Total War: Warhammer. Sadly it's actually not performing as well as my R9 280x. I'm 99% sure it's bottle necking, but even then, shouldn't it preform as well as my R9 280x?

Your system specs would help immensely. Which 1070? What CPU? What motherboard? What PSU? What Case and number of case fans?.

GPU: evga super overclocked geforce gtx 1070
Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4150 CPU

I've only seen my CPU reach a max temp of 51c

I have 3 case fans. 2 which are stock, and ones a corsair.
Ik my cpu is lacking, but shouldn't it at least run as well as my windforce r9 280x? Doesn't really make sense to me.

500w. I've tried putting it in my other computer, which has 750w. That computer however has a better cpu, and motherboard, but it yielded even worse results.

While playing Total War: Warhammer at medium settings (I get fps lag on that even.)

There is a program called MSI afterburner. It is both a overclocking utlity and has OSD that can tell you information about your system. Download it from here

Go to it's settings and OSD section of settings and get back to me once your in that menu.

Are you running win10 and running the game in dx12? If so maybe have a read here.

Did you remove the drivers from the old card before installing drivers for the 1070?
