Windows 10 32 bit or 64 bit for old laptop

I have a 9 year old Compaq Presario CQ50-139WM

I've disabled both The Windows Store Service and the AntiMalware Service via the registry, in order to save CPU resources of this low performing single core mobile processor. Before I did so, the computer was practically unusable with either the 64 bit and 32 bit versions of Windows 10.

Question: Which OS is best?

Intel Celeron M 575 (single core @ 2.0 GHz)
2GB RAM
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB

Solution

Your CPU has a 64 bit data width and supports CMPXCHG8B and CMPXCHG16B instructions so basically no problem running a 64 bit OS on paper.

In reality a single 2Ghz 9-year old CPU with 2GB RAM? Not the best for more modern OSs like Win 10. The 2GB RAM is not really enough...

It's simply too old for windows 10 or basically doing anything on it.

Wrong. There is absolutely a point, especially given a lot of new applications don't even ship with 32-bit versions anymore.

There is no legitimate reason to install a new OS was win-32 anymore.

The basic budget pre-built systems these days come with 4GB as base and it's advised to increase to at least 8GB for day to day use and some gaming (which is out of question with this system).

Another issue with systems that are this old is general lack or driver support for newer OSs. Seldom you can find Win 10 drivers for systems that go back to the time of Win 7.

With that amount of RAM (if possible add RAM) I'd say you can try Win 7 Home 32-bit but don't run anything memory intensive.
