Hello,

I tried updating BIOS today from 2018 to 8018 (not 100% sure about the versions).

First off, I downloaded AI Suite 3 and the .CAP file for my motherboard. Using AI Suite 3 I selected the .CAP file which I had placed on my desktop. Installation bar came up and it took a few minutes. Then my PC booted and entered EZ FLASH 3 v3.0.0. EZ FLASH 3 told me to find the same file I had used earlier.

I navigated to my desktop and selected the file, but it gave me an error. I googled out that the file format can't be NTFS. So I took an USB stick and downloaded another copy of the .CAP file, formatted my USB stick as FAT32 and put the file on it. I found on the manual that the file name has to be Z170PD3.CAP? However when selecting this file it gives me an error "Not a proper BIOS".

Does the file has to be exactly same what I used in AI Suite 3? Copy of it doesn't work?

I also read that you shouldn't update BIOS from Windows based software, was this my first mistake?

Any help is much appreciated.

method A: easiest way is just open ez flash 3 and select the internet option

Method B: the other way is though a usb drive like you said.
full format the flash drive into fat 32 system like you said
copy the cab file over (do not rename, that is for bios recovery which your are not doing)
then open ez flash 3 and select usb
find the file and hit enter
it should flash it then.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I formatted my USB stick again and put the file there as it was named (no renaming). Then I tried using that file, but it still say that it's not a proper BIOS. When i format my USB stick and connect it to my PC there is one another file on the stick: System volume information. Does it matter if the USB stick has one another file in it?

On the manual it says "by USB", however when I connect my USB stick it says By Storage Device(s), because I have SSD and HDD plugged in, can that have any meaning?

Since using USB seems problematic for me, should I go for the Internet option?

EDIT:
Tried another USB stick and it worked perfectly! Don't know what was the problem with the other one tho.. But it's all good now, case closed.
