HI I have a lap top running windows 10, I just bought a new memory module from A-Data (8Gb), but windows 10 ( and ubuntu) did not recognizes it, is it a bios version upgrade needed? are those modeule compatible? When I insert only the 8Gb module the computer does not start.

Solution
Gotcha. This means that the bios recognizes it too. Not sure why the 8gb module doesn't work on its own.

I would download a memtest live cd/usb and see how much is recognized there and if it tests fine.

Thank you for the answer, I'm begin to suspect the voltage. i think it has to be a DDR3L module not a DDR3, I'll have to buy another one

Well, basically memtest does find the memory module, but when you start the test it does not consider the Adata module it simply tests only the other one
