I'm certain this is a worn out topic by now, seeing that Win10 came out in July 2015. However, I just finished my new build and it's still a problem that I'd like to fix. When I first upgraded to 10, I was running a legitimate copy in 7 Pro, however I had just bought new hardware to install before the upgrade. Something with the motherboard wouldn't let it work with 7, so I upgraded to 10 on my old platform before replacing and it worked-but windows was no longer activated. So, my questions are:

1. I've switched my motherboard and CPU AGAIN since then, is there any way to activate Windows other that rebuying and reinstalling?

2. If I buy a new main drive and put everything on my old onto the new, will it deactivate again?

Solution
Bit confused here:

Let me walk through the timeline

Win 7 Pro
New hardware - didn't work with WIn 7
Revert to old hardware
Upgrade to Win 10
Still unactivated.
Now...more new hardware, motherboard and CPU
Win 10 is now still unactivated.

Is this correct?

If so, yes, this is what happens.

Before you did that last hardware change, you should have done this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html
This links the OS license (the digital entitlement) to your MS account, rather than specific hardware.

Your main option now is to call MS and plead your case. They may say yea, or they may say nay.

Alright, I think I may have tried but let me see what I can do. The weird thing about the first upgrade is after a few months it activated on its own. Not sure how it happened but it did.
