Windows 10 activation question

Hi,
I have just upgraded my PC a few days ago and clean installed Win 8 pro.Now if I don't upgrade to win 8.1 and clean install Win 10 iso,when it releases, using a USB,will it activate itself using the valid 8 key?Or must I upgrade to win 8.1 prior to that?Please help

You must upgrade for the 8.1 key to transfer over. If you do a clean install you will need a new key. Otherwise Microsoft will have no way of checking if you had a genuine license before hand.

Microsoft is only giving out free upgrades to genuine users.

there still posting on the net about windows free upgrades and how some of them wont be as free as people think.

Microsoft specifically said Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 ONLY. No windows 8 (which does not make since to me lol).

Plus, windows 8.1 is so much better than windows 8. It's free to so why not go with that?

Well for certain, Microsoft is offering free UPGRADES. So you will have to upgrade and cannot clean install. They have confirmed this.

UGH. I don't understand why NO free upgrades from scratch. Oh well, at least we get windows 10.

Because then it won't be a free upgrade. It would be a free license.

Thanks everyone for your responses.I will upgrade to Win 8.1 and then upgrade to the Win 10. Within the upgrade,during installation,I hope there will be an option to keep nothing and proceed.That,I think,would be nice.

Windows 8 is actually no longer supported, not for anything including security fixes. So it's best to move to 8.1 as soon as you can.

You may be able to do a clean install once you upgrade to windows 10. It was suggested in another thread.
