Windows 10 activation

Hi, so my computer had a problem and the only way for me to repair it was to format it. I thougth that it would be a great idea to wait till the release of Windows 10 to do it since I would have formated it anyway. I installed Windows 10 using a bootable usb that I made from my other computer. My problem is that I can't activate my Windows 10 even with the serial key from the computer (with win 8.1 and I reserved Win 10 with it). I don't know what to do.

To get the free upgrade, Windows 10 must be installed from inside an activated copy of 7/8/8.1.

You'll need to find installation media for 8.1 and install it, then you can run setup.exe on the Win10 disk and it'll install that.

After you've done that once, you can just install using the Windows 10 disk, without worrying about keys.

FYI if you have a genuine copy of windows 8 you have to update to 8.1 and have to perform all update for 7 ( including SP1) and 8 for the reservation to appear

You can't do the updates for 7 on a Win8 machine...
